Terre des hommes Foundation
Terre des hommes (Tdh), a non-governmental organisation based in Switzerland, is celebrating 50 years of child relief. With projects in 34 countries, Tdh improves the condition of the most vulnerable children durably. Over one million children and their families benefit from health and protection programmes, carried out by 1,300 national employees and several dozen partner organisations.
Since July 22, 1960, the pioneer spirit that was behind the creation of Terre des hommes in the sixties lives on in our ability and will to innovate and experiment in order to achieve results. Half a century of knowledge and actions have also enhanced our expertise. Tdh defends principles of justice and contributes to a better social equilibrium in society. In the struggle against poverty and all forms of violence, a socially balanced society is a prerequisite for the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. With respect and consideration for others - beneficiaries, partners, employees and donors – Tdh continues its efforts for a world where children can grow up in dignity. Tdh provides direct aid, implements children’s rights, reinforces communities and urges institutions to address the needs of the most vulnerable.
As the Secretary General of Terre des hommes, Peter Brey stressed in his 50th anniversary message: “In dealing with exploitation and trafficking, combating hunger and disease, and faced with violence and disaster, we could never have saved so many children without you, our colleagues who live in the countries where the actions are carried out and are entrenched in the culture and customs, thereby allowing us to succeed together. “
The 1,400 employees of Tdh implement 90 projects in four continents, relying on a budget of 40 million Euros in 2010.
